Flowers Exhibition in Girona

Girona – as you might know by now that’s my beloved town – fills every May its streets, public gardens, private Jew patios, cathedral dependencies, etc with a flower’s exhibition called “Girona Temps de Flors” (Girona, Flowers Time)

It lasts for 9 days, including two complete weekends and this last Sunday it closed its doors again for the 2007 edition. Behind there were left hundreds of thousands of people who visited, once more this amazing layout.

I went for a look on the first weekend and took along my friend Glauco, who flew in all the way from Bournemouth to both visit me and the exhibition. Despite my previous marketing, he honestly admitted he wasn’t much impressed. If I am to be sincere myself, neither was I. I used to find it simply fascinating, this time I thought it was just “fine”. Oh well! Maybe I just grew used to watch this gorgeous city covered in colors and textures … or maybe I simply didn’t pay much attention.

But it’s not just because of the flowers that I’m telling you about the flowers … keep here with me.

At one point we were in the German’s Gardens (Jardins dels Alemanys), just fooling around an artificial pond and looking at the settlement of ornaments, when I see this reeeaaally cute guy walk into the gardens: long dark hair, sharp look, tanned complexion bringing out the loose white shirt he was wearing (or vice versa). A big nice necklace and artist-like distracted manners … I turn over myself to follow him with my sight when he passes by me and suddenly I realize I know him!! An unexpected voice comes out from my lungs even before I can realize it, and unconsciously I call his name: Albert!!? He turns and looks at me. Holly smokes!! He’s my cousin, the one I haven’t seen for such a long time. He stops dead on his track, for certain I was the last person he was hoping to see there. We hug, we kiss and we start talking. Ohhh wooohh!! He tells me he’s visiting the exhibition with her friend Elisenda (such a nice lady, really!! I liked her so much from the first minut we talked - high-wire connection, if you know what I'm talking about), and that in just a couple of weeks he’s on his way to India, with no return ticket as for now. Really?? - I asked him, with an enthusiastic shriek?? – I was there recently myself, 3 months, I can give you some lines on it that might be of help. We go on chit-chatting for a long while and exchange our cell numbers to keep in touch. I’m so happy!! He’s my age and even though we haven’t been in touch for a long time, I sense there’s a string in there, something we really share in life….
As it happens to be, my cousin Albert doen't simply look as a distracted artist, he is indeen and artist. He doesn't have a real webpage yet - he said he's working on it - but you can find some of his art here and here.

So, all taken into account, I’m most certain it wasn’t just by chance that we decided to go ramble across the narrow streets of the Old Town with Glauco. Listen to this, nothing happens just by chance, I would walk on fire to hold onto this belief-

In any case, here you are a few pictures of the flowers, and of the meeting of course ;O)
(some of the pics were "donated" by a friend who also visited the exhibitions and kindly accepted to let me use some of his shots for my post. So: Thanks Josep Ma!!)
